Just when you thought you’ve seen everything there is to see on a portable media player, iriver creates another intriguing device in the form of Spinn. The Spinn comes in a metallic silver finish and a white backing. It has a 3.3-inch touchscreen that dominates the front of the device. What makes the Spinn interesting is the cylindrical wheel that serves as another controller aside from the touchscreen. The text-based interface may not be very attractive, but the reviewer stated that it is easy to navigate. It comes bundled with iriver Plus 3 software to sync the player, though it also supports drag-and-drop from both Mac and Windows. Audio quality is excellent, especially when high-end headphones are used. It supports lossless formats OGG and FLAC aside from the usual MP3 and WMA formats. The reviewer noted that using the built-in Bluetooth of the Spinn to pair with Bluetooth stereo headphones was not a problem. Videos transferred to the Spinn are automatically converted to WMV format. The converted files looked only slightly more pixelated than the original videos, and audio was well synced. Battery life is rated at around 24 hours for audio and 5 for video. The large touchscreen plus good audio and video quality make the iriver Spinn a decent choice.
Pros:
-built-in Bluetooth
-large touchscreen
-very good audio quality
-supports drag and drop on Mac and Windows
Cons:
-Spinn wheel can be imprecise
-limited storage despite being pricey
-FLAC files won’t play over Bluetooth
