The first JAQ was released in the fall of 2006 - a lightweight Pocket PC with Windows Mobile 5 with a spacious keyboard, but it was criticized for its bulk and the absence of Wi-Fi. Early in 2007, i-mate followed up with the release of the JAQ3. It was surprising to the reviewer that a 200 MHz processor was used instead of something more powerful, although this will help extend battery life. The Bluetooth version is also out of date with 1.2 instead of 2.0. The JAQ3 has been thrown in the ring already dominated by Samsung BlackJack and Motorola Q. As a Pocket PC, the JAQ3 is more powerful and versatile than those two smartphones, especially once upgraded to Windows Mobile 6. The lack of carrier subsidy means higher cost, but this did not stop the reviewer from appreciating the product.
