While most of the iPod docks available in the market do the same thing, the iLuv i399 BluePin 2.1-Channel Hi-Fi Audio System decided to go the distance and add an FM radio, Bluetooth, and LCD on their system. Measuring 19.1 inches wide by 8.1 inches tall, it is by no means small. You can power the i399 with 8 D batteries or by the AC power jack. The Bluetooth function of the i399 performed well under tests though call quality results were mixed. The iPhone produced good results while other units fared worse. While it provides you with more features, the i399 performed poorly when it comes to the basics: sound quality. The reviewer noted that the bass wasn’t enough even with the subwoofer and highs sounded weak. It lacks any tone controls and the unit picked up RF interference. The FM radio had problems picking up low-powered stations though it didn’t have any problems with stronger ones. All in all, though it does offer more than your usual docking station, the iLuv i399 BluePin 2.1-Channel Hi-Fi Audio System fails at the very basic, which basically means its back to the drawing boards.
