iHome iP99 Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — August, 2008

Joining the list of iPhone-compatible clock radios is the iHome iP99. While it might not be the first clock radio to be iPhone-compatible, it is the first to have Apple’s “Works with iPhone” logo. The iP99 features a matte black design, rounded edges and a black metal grille in front that covers two small speakers. The blue-tinted LCD displays the time in huge numbers on a dark background. It comes with adapters for the iPhone, iPod touch, iPod nano and iPhone 3G. It has a very flexible alarm system, allowing for weekend, weekday, or all-week alarms. The snooze button is large and easy to find. Around it are the mechanical scroll wheels that control volume, tuning, and time. The reviewer noted that the speakers sounded good after enabling the SRS WOW equalizer and a few adjustments. The music paused when a call came in. However, the reviewer stated that the same doesn’t hold true when the iP99 is in AM/FM radio mode, where it also suffers from the buzzing noise by a docked or nearby iPhone. Despite these setbacks, the iHome iP99 deserves a second look for its clarity, ease of use and a great alarm system.
Pros:
-Great sound quality
-Well-lit display for easy reading
-Flexible alarm system
-Buttons are back-lit
Cons:
-AM/FM not shielded from buzzing
-No speakerphone function
