Via Virtual Earth Virtual Earth Mobile Reviews

Summary of review published by Smartphone & Pocket PC — June, 2007 (page 87)

Virtual Earth is a free mapping application that offers maps and satellite photos of various locations. Unlike paid alternatives, this program doesn’t require you to preload maps before use. You’ll only need to download maps on the internet as you need them. You can simply enter the location, business, or address of your destination. As you view maps over the internet, they are cached into your mobile device, which makes loading faster when you need to view the maps again. In fact, cached maps can be viewed without an internet connection. Once you enter a location, you’ll have access to driving directions. This includes turn-by-turn directions in text. You can also look up businesses via their name or category and limit your search within a specific area. You can also use your stylus to easily browse the maps. Despite the features found on Virtual Earth, the reviewer believes that Windows Live search has more features and may become more popular and useful. Virtual Earth requires Windows Mobile versions 2003 to 5.0 to run.
Pros:
-No need to preload maps
-Includes turn-by-turn directions can be displayed via text format
-Good business search capabilities
