When it comes to wireless routers, the first brand that comes into mind might be D-Link or possibly Netgear - definitely not Trendnet. While it may not have that “big name” status yet, they still produce competitive wireless equipment and sell them at attractive prices. One such router is the Trendnet 300Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router that sells for only $125. It incorporates Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) wired ports but unfortunately it uses only the 2.4-GHz band for 802.11n traffic. The reviewer noted that setting up the router is somewhat problematic. During installation, it refused to see the wired adapters. It also hung when searching for the Internet connection and it installed a trialware without giving the user a chance to opt-out. On the other hand, the web-based management screens are clear, intuitive and provide plenty of options. The TEW-633GR supports Virtual Servers and has multiple forms of QoS-style traffic protection. It has a bevy of security features including an SPI firewall, traffic filtering, and content filtering. Performance tests were marred by the 2.4-GHz-only issue and multiple APs surrounding the test area. At 20 feet, Perf throughput tests averaged out to 186 Mbps. At 50 feet, it was down to 138 Mbps, and 57 Mbps at 80 feet - still respectable numbers for a 2.4-GHz unit. Despite a few quirks, budget seekers will find a lot to love with the Trendnet TEW-633GR.
Pros:
-attractive price point
-good router management
-stylish
Cons:
-operates in 2.4-GHz band only
-buggy installation wizard
