In what seems to be an odd way of addressing the corporate notebook market, Toshiba decided to go bland with the Tecra A9-S9021V. Encased in a gray and black plastic, it weighs 6.4 pounds and is quite bulky, despite being only a 15.4-inch notebook. The full-size keyboard is comfortable to use, though the touchpad feels too plastic and has a small surface area. High-res lovers will find the 15.4-inch screen to be enjoyable with its 1680 x 1050-pixel resolution and a glare-reducing satin finish that cuts glare and reflection. However, this caused some dulling of colors and loss of detail. While the Tecra A9 has the requisite ports, clearly missing is an HDMI port as well as a web cam. Security features for the Tecra A9 includes a fingerprint reader and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2, along with Infineon’s TPM Software Package. To protect your hard drive from shocks, it also has the Toshiba’s EasyGuard durability features. Benchmark scores for the Tecra A9 are below average, though the reviewer noted that it can multitask well. The standard six-cell battery lasted only 2 hours and 31 minutes. Overall, while it does have the features and performance to do the job, you can get a better bang for your buck elsewhere.
