Based on AMD’s new Puma platform, the Satellite M305D-S4828 offers just the right performance for its price. The 5.3-pound M305D uses the Fusion design. The lid is done with a high-gloss charcoal finish, while the keyboard deck and the keys are glossy black. The touchpad is conveniently positioned and responsive. A pair of Harman/Kardon speakers provides the audio muscle of the M305D. It offers three Sleep and Charge USB ports along with a bevy of others such as a 54mm ExpressCard slot, a FireWire port and a USB port that doubles as an eSATA connector. With the TruBrite coating, the 14.1-inch display delivered a bright, crisp picture with great color reproduction. Powered by AMD’s Turion X2 Ultra ZM-80 2.1GHz dual-core processor and 3GB of system memory, benchmark scores were just average, though the M305D is more than capable of multitasking. During testing, the unit lasted only 2 hours and 55 minutes of continuous web surfing. The reviewer noted that the M305D unfortunately comes with a truckload of bloatware. While it won’t stun you with blazing speed or killer 3D graphics, the Satellite M305D-S4828 is more than capable of getting you through your everyday workload.
