Using the same components packed inside a similar looking chassis, it is very easy to mistake the Systemax Medallion XVII for the ChemBook Z7 notebook. They both have the same design, though the Medallion has “Systemax” in the lid instead of the word “Notebook.” The horrible keyboard layout of the ChemBook is still present in the Medallion, and so is the annoying typing experience that comes with it. The 17-inch display of the Medallion offered good viewing angles, though the reviewer noted that colors looked washed out and grainy. Benchmark scores for the Medallion were below average, and mostly below the ChemBook Z7 notebook. The reviewer noted that this might be due to the difference in operating systems. Gamers who would rely on the Medallion for gaming would be very much disappointed as benchmark scores for games were very poor. Wireless performance is at par with desktop replacements while its battery life is good, lasting for 2 hours and 2 minutes in a DVD rundown test. In the end, the $1,299 price for is just way too expensive for a system that looks boring, slow and has a keyboard you really wouldn’t love.
