Symantec Norton Internet Security 2009 Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — November, 2008

Norton is known for its intrusive and resource-hogging security suite. This year, they decided to do something about it when they released Norton Internet Security 2009. Installing the software is a cinch, taking only a minute or two before the program launches. And the best part of it is that no reboot is even necessary. The interface is clear and easy to follow. However, there are a lot of settings available, forcing you to go through them. The reviewer noted that even after a week after installing the program, they were still discovering new options. While Norton has top-shelf virus and spyware detection, as rated by Virus Bulletin, it's the unobtrusiveness that makes the software truly powerful. Micro-updates are invisibly pushed into your system and full system scans run during CPU idle time. The reviewer stated that a single day can lapse without a single reminder that Norton was even running. Even with a full scan in the background, there was no visible performance hit while surfing or using a word processor. The full scan finished in less than 30 minutes. Norton’s two-way firewall puts all ports in stealth mode to protect from outside intrusions. Overall, the Norton Internet Security 2009 is currently the best security suite currently available in the market.
Pros:
-quick to install
-frequently updates
-very deep feature set
-minimal resource usage
Cons:
-no setup wizard
-discovering features difficult
