Spiceworks, Inc Spiceworks 2.0 Reviews

Summary of review published by PC Magazine — May, 2008

Spiceworks 2.0 is a networking management software that can show problem alerts, peek at hardware inventory, and track trouble tickets - all for free. All you need to do is download it, install, and turn on its auto-discovery. This process will attempt to find all the devices within the network. You might have to manually input any Mac and Linux machines, though. It has a summary page that gives an overview of alerts about hardware and software. It also has a built-in Helpdesk to assist administrators in dealing with trouble ticket concerns. Although Spiceworks looks like an all-in-one networking management solution, it has one serious limitation: it lacks network diagnostic tools. However, with all its features, ease of use, availability for free, there’s no denying that Spiceworks is a great package.
Pros:
-Free
-User friendly
-Nice auto generated reports
-Useful daily summary page
-Comes with an embedded help-desk capabilities
-Very Windows-like
Cons:
-Doesn’t support SNMP
-No network testing tools except for discovery
