Spencer Kimball & Peter Mattis GIMP Reviews

Summary of review published by Connected Photographer — October, 2007

Rated 4 of 5

Photo editing programs can cost a lot. However, you don't have to own an expensive photo-editing program to add layers of text, effects and creative touches to your pictures. GIMP is an open source program which, despite the name, is loaded with photo enhancement goodies. Easy to install, semi-easy navigation and with a lot of available effects and filters, you can easily achieve professional-looking images. The reviewer states that GIMP has maintained a reputation for being one of the best pieces of free image editing software since it began. However, there are several drawbacks. One is the lack of documentation. If you get stuck, you have to do research just to proceed. Also, the program tends to freeze while the effects are loading. Considering the price and the amount of options to choose from, the reviewer states that GIMP is still a pretty great program to use for your photo doctoring needs.
