Sony Vaio VGN-AW180YQ Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — October, 2008

With an 18.4-inch, full HD display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, it’s easy to see that the Sony VAIO AW Series (VGN-AW180Y/Q) was made for multimedia. The exterior of the AW has a glossy black lid and large, silver VAIO logo. On the other hand, the interior is entirely matte. The thickest part of the AW is at 1.6 inches and it weighs 8.2 pounds. The keyboard is made out of flat, separated keys and a full keypad adorns the right side. The 18.4-inch, full HD display is LED backlit and takes advantage of Sony’s proprietary Xbrite technology. The screen produced accurate colors and rich details, while providing a wide range of viewing angles at the same time. At your disposal is a myriad of ports which includes a Blu-ray burner, HDMI, an ExpressCard/34 slot, an SD Card reader, and a separate 4-in-1 memory card slot. During testing, the AW got a score that is almost a thousand points above the desktop replacement category average. It is no slouch in the gaming department either, getting a score that’s 3,000 points above the category average. Battery life lasted 1 hour and 44 minutes which is an hour short of the average. For a powerful, feature-packed entertainment notebook, the Sony VAIO VGN-AW180Y/Q is a solid option.
Pros:
-bright display
-wide range of viewing angles
-excellent benchmark scores
-strong gaming power
Cons:
-not too sleek design
-short battery life
-few hiccups during Blu-ray playback
-expensive
