Sony PW-EX1 XDCAM Reviews

Summary of review published by DV Magazine — April, 2008 (page 18)

Sony’s PMW-EX1 XDCAM EX may just have what it takes to nudge people into going tapeless. Although it has its flaws, their impact may be minimal depending on the user’s needs. As for the reviewer, he found that the good points of this camera were enough to win him over. For example, the EX1’s lack of balance makes it difficult to use as a handheld camcorder, but its ability to tilt at a certain angle can be used as a corrective mechanism. The electronic image stabilization is superb, at times making tripods redundant. As for the LCD screen, the reviewer claims it is among the sharpest he has ever seen. It also has a programmable menu that can be very convenient. Overall, the EX1 is a fine blend of image quality, feature set, and ease of editing. It’s a great piece of equipment if you’re looking to join the tapeless bandwagon.
Pros:
-Contains 3 full-raster 1920x1080 1/2" imagers
-Equipped with Fujinon lens
-Compatible with SxS card format
-Programmable menu
-Great image quality for the price range
Cons:
-No SD card
-Fragile power switch
-Tricky handling
-Some format limitations
