Sony HDR-FX-7 HDV Reviews

Summary of review published by VideoMaker — February, 2007

Recording in high-definition video has somewhat been a dream for any other user group but camcorder companies such as Sony have made the technology readily available and suitable for almost any application. With this growing line of camcorders, one should consider the HRD-FX7 HDV, which is held by the reviewer as something that will appeal to both serious video producers and simple video enthusiasts alike. The LCD screen is notable in that details that are not usually visible are apparent here and the viewfinder comes in handy when one needs to see the true color of your image outdoors. Intuitive controls include a zoom mechanism that allows for faster or slower zooms in accordance with the speed in which you turn the ring. Colors and sharpness of the output in an HD monitor is certainly appealing, but the onboard mic is a drawback and plugging in a higher quality device may be in order. The FX7’s heaviness certainly justifies the price yet it is also light enough to carry without need of a shoulder mount. People working in a professional production environment will find the Sony HDR-FX7 an affordable and winning addition to one’s troupe.
Pros:
-Light weight
-Decent low light performance
-20x optical zoom
Cons:
-Auto focus stalls searching
-Auto switching of iris control to gain
-Lacks XLR inputs
