It took a year for Sony Ericsson to release the promised Windows Mobile smart phone, the Xperia X1. One quick look and you’ll see that the Xperia is not your regular smart phone. The luxurious-looking and expertly crafted Xperia measures 4.4 x 2.1 x 0.7 inches. It has a large 3-inch, 800 x 480 display that is crisp and colorful. The rear is made of brushed metal while the sides are accented by a chrome silver strip. A full QWERTY keyboard is located underneath the phone and is slightly angled for comfortable typing. While entering short web addresses wasn’t a problem, the reviewer noted that the lack of tactile feedback makes typing tedious. The X Panel user interface allows users to view 9 different panels that act as portals into applications. For e-mail, the Xperia uses Outlook Mobile. GPS is also supported, though there were no preinstalled premium apps on the phone. You can load up to 16GB of multimedia files via the microSD slot. You can access the web via HSDPA and HSUPA networks or using the built-in Wi-Fi radio. The X1 features a 3.2-MP camera with autofocus and a single LED flash. Call quality and battery endurance are excellent. Overall, for those with the money, the Sony Xperia X1 is an excellent Windows Mobile smart phone.
