The Sony Ericsson TM506 is the first HSDPA handset to be offered by T-Mobile. It comes in two different color schemes: chrome with amber, and chrome with emerald. It has a solid hinge and a beautiful glossy black cover. It has an external 128 x 36-pixel resolution grayscale LCD display and a bigger, crisper, extra-bright internal 320 x 240-pixel screen. The user interface is fluid with no hint of any delay, unless the music player is running in the background. The reviewer noted that the TM506 is not for multimedia fans since it lacks a memory card, a USB cable and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Web surfing at 3G speeds can be done through T-Mobile’s T-Zones portal, though the 3G network is currently available in only 20 markets. While it does have support for several e-mail services, you cannot add your own IMAP or POP account. The TM506 offers TeleNav GPS service that allows for local search as well as turn-by-turn directions. Calls made on the TM506 were clear on both ends when outdoors, though the signal was erratic when indoors. If you are more into multimedia, you might want to look at other options. But if it’s a 3G connection you are after and a slick UI, the Sony Ericsson TM506 is a good choice.
