What do you get when you cross logos of pop-culture figures and the Sidekick? Answer: T-mobile's latest offering, the Sidekick 2008. T-mobile decided to partner with Skinit to create customized stick-on labels for the Sidekick. The unit's fancy casing measures 4.7 by 2.3 by 0.7 inches and is slimmer than the Sidekick LX. You still get the funky swiveling screen, now a bright and tight 240-by-400-pixel color panel. It also retains the same easy-to-use operating system that works via a rotating series of menus. The Sidekick’s forte remains to be messaging, and the reviewer stated that it's a terrific gadget for texting, picture messaging, and IM. E-mail performance is a mixed bag. While it does push messages from its own TMail account, it offers a meager 6MB of e-mail. Call quality is average at best, with a so-so reception and a speakerphone that’s too quiet. The reviewer also noted that Web browsing is mediocre. Multimedia fans will love the Sidekick’s elegant music player, though video playback was unacceptably jerky. If you are into snazzy skins and would love a phone that’s great for messaging, the Sidekick 2008 is the model to get.
Pros:
-smaller than predecessors
-simple to operate
-fully customizable faceplates
Cons:
-small text
-poor camera
-mediocre video playback
