Summary of review published by VideoMaker — June, 2008
Sanyo’s Xacti VPC-HD1000 is a stylish camcorder designed with the home movie makers and hobbyists in mind. It is light weight and small in size, making it portable to be carried anywhere. It can capture and store both video and stills in its SD memory card. D1000 is ergonomically designed that you can use your thumb to control it. The color output is vibrant. Its auto-focus feature responds well to change in focal length. The only thing that the camcorder needs to be improved is its mono microphone. The audio captured is a bit tinny but you can easily remedy it by using an external microphone through the microphone input slot. HD1000 is priced competitively making it the smart entry level choice when buying a high definition camcorder.
Pros:
-Aesthetically beautiful
-Has multiple output options
-Ergonomic in design
Cons:
-Focus and exposure controls are difficult
-Low light makes the picture grainy
-Built in microphone makes recorded audio tinny
-Needs the docking station for video output

As time goes on, the Xacti line of cameras from Sanyo just gets better and better. Its latest product, the HD1000, is no exception. An improvement over the last release, the HD1000 is considered by the reviewer as the best device in the line. Weighing only 9.1 ounces, the HD1000 is very lightweight, though this can be a problem when it comes to steadying the camera when shooting at full zoom. And even if the Xacti has an auto-focus, the reviewer stated that a stronger one would be better to compensate for the weight. The Xacti is neatly designed with its buttons clearly labeled and the controls positioned where it can be easily reached. And with the ability to shoot in full HD mode, you get footages with accurate and lifelike colors. Under low light, the reviewer noted that noise was very evident but not enough to distract. The biggest downside of the Xacti is the occasional tearing in video when connected via HDMI. Nevertheless, the HD1000, given its portability and video quality is an excellent choice for a high-def camera.
Pros:
-Excellent video quality
-Lightweight
-Sharp photos
Cons:
-Hard to steady when shooting
-Tearing in videos
