In a bid to breathe new life into a slowly disappearing niche, Samsung introduced the Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium. Weighing just 1.9 pounds and providing a tablet function, it is aimed at professionals who’d benefit from its mobility. The Q1 offers three ways for you to type in it: via the split QWERTY keyboard, a virtual keyboard using the stylus or by using the handwriting recognition software. The reviewer noted that using the second and third option was too slow and too inaccurate, though the resistive touchscreen was responsive to inputs. Display was vibrant and images looked great from all angles. Thanks to its 1.3 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, the system operated lag-free. Benchmark scores were almost double of the average for UMPC, though you still can’t play high-end games. However, despite the strong performance of the Q1, the reviewer stated that it’s still too pricey at $1,299. With mini-notebooks that cost for so much less starting to make waves in the scene, finding a place for this expensive UMPC just got a whole lot more difficult.
