Samsung Epix Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — October, 2008

AT&T’s Samsung Epix’s design looks very similar to the BlackJack series. It comes in smoke gray coloring and measures 4.6 x 2.4 x 0.5 inches. It’s also 0.3 ounces heavier than its predecessor. The 2.5-inch, 320 x 320-pixel touchscreen display can be operated via touch or with the included stylus. Instead of a jog wheel, you’d find instead an optical mouse. It sports a full QWERTY keypad with small and somewhat stiff keys. The Epix runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and the reviewer noted that it didn’t hang with multiple applications open. Messaging can be done via Outlook Mobile that you can configure with any POP or IMAP e-mail address. For multimedia fans, the Epix supports MobiTV and XM Radio. Web browsing can be done via AT&T’s 3G HSDPA network and the built-in Wi-Fi, though it doesn’t come packaged with the Opera Mobile browser. The Epix can also function as a GPS device, thanks to AT&T Navigator, which is powered by TeleNav. Voice quality in general was good both indoors and outdoors. Battery life is far from being stellar, so you might want to keep the charger at arms length as always. While it is a good alternative to the BlackBerry Bold, the reviewer recommends waiting for the prices to come down even more.
Pros:
-integrated touchscreen
-good call quality
-has optical mouse
-has Wi-Fi
Cons:
-no Opera Mobile browser
-pricey
-bulky
-stiff keys
