Research in Motion Blackberry Pearl 8130 Sprint Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — July, 2008

The rich multimedia offerings (mobile TV, music and GPS) of Sprint go well with the stylish design of RIM’s slimmest handset, the Blackberry Pearl 8130. There is very little difference between the Blackberry Pearl 8130 and the 8120. You still get the hybrid QWERTY/dialpad, the crisp, 2.3-inch, 260 x 240 display and the trackball controller. However, the 8130 from Sprint lacks the Wi-Fi capability found on T-mobile’s 8120 offering. The 8130 also comes armed with SureType to help ease the typing process. However, the reviewer noted that it takes getting used to, especially for those who are QWERTY fans. Users can setup up to 10 e-mail accounts on the 8130 by using either POP/IMAP mail. The reviewer stated that the push e-mail, SMS messaging, and RIM BlackBerry Messenger worked flawlessly, albeit there were some minor frustrations with the keypad. Sprint’s EV-DO data connection provided blazing internet speed, loading pages in mere seconds. The 2-megapixel camera produced grainy and featureless images indoors, and the same can be said for shooting video. Call quality with the 8130 was flawless, though the same couldn’t be said with a Bluetooth headset. Nevertheless, the Blackberry Pearl 8130 handles multimedia and push e-mail well, making it a notable mobile device.
Pros:
-Quick data connection
-With mobile TV and music download support
-GPS integrated
-Good call quality

Cons:
-SureType takes getting used to
-Pixelated and blurry video quality
