There’s no mistaking that the BlackBerry Bold is a premium smart phone. It comes in a glossy black finish and silver border and features an exceptional 2.8-inch, 480 x 320-pixel resolution display that’s bright and popping colors. The keyboard has beveled keys and is a bit larger than those found on the Curve. It retains the white trackball for navigating the updated user interface. The Bold sports RIM’s new 4.6 operating system that provides a cleaner look and easier to distinguish icons. Just like its predecessors, the Bold supports a plethora of e-mail and messaging services including existing POP or IMAP enterprise and personal accounts. Documents To Go is included to open and edit Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files out of the box. The Bold can connect to the Web via AT&T’s network or the 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi, though the reviewer noted that the Wi-Fi is moderately faster. The Bold’s 2-MP camera produced photos that were noticeably clearer, sharper, and more colorful than the Curve 8330. It still has the excellent call quality and a decent battery life, given all of its capabilities. While some people may balk at the BlackBerry Bold’s tag price of $299, BlackBerry fans with money to spend, it is worth the splurge.
