Raketu Mobile Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — March, 2008

Raketu, a VoIP service which has been around for quite some time, is now extending their services specifically for iPhone or iTouch users. The Raketu iPhone allows iPhone users to be able to make VoIP calls using a web based application. To access the Raketu, you go to its web site using your iPhone and from there, you get to register and buy “credits.” The reviewer stated that the term “credits” is actually misleading because it’s really just prepaid minutes. The reviewer noted that it took 2 hours for the purchased credits to appear. There were many times as well when the “Buy your credit” page was down, often for days at a time, so getting more credits is never a guarantee. Also, Raketu does not turn your iTouch into a phone. What it really does is that it calls your cell phone and once you pick up, it calls the second number. This way, it lowers international calling rates but the trade-off is that it still uses your cell phone minutes. Though the Raketu iPhone was easy to use and offers competitive rates for international calls, the reviewer still finds the IM+ for Skype a better alternative.
Pros:
-Lowers international call rates
-Easy to use
-Clear call quality
Cons:
-Uses up own phone’s minutes
-Loading can take time
-Loading site usually down
-iPod touch won’t work like a phone
