The Pentax *istDS is a remarkable camera that boasts of huge improvements from its predecessor, the Pentax *istD. While the latter took great pictures, it left much to be desired as the control layout was clunky and at times unresponsive. The designers of Pentax *istDS set things right by streamlining the ergonomics, making it feel very pleasant in one’s hand. All these without cutting down on quality, the *ist DS has a rugged stainless steel chassis for operating under the toughest conditions. Set it on AUTO and take beautiful instant snapshots fuss-free, or play with the controls and display your creativity in full MANUAL mode. Image quality is excellent, and because Pentax has made it a philosophy not to over-process images, the result is more detailed shots that can be edited in various computer software for gorgeous effects.
Pros:
-Immense improvement over previous model
-Tough chassis made of stainless steel
-Can be extremely simple to operate, or more complex depending on the user’s need
Cons:
-2-inch LCD a bit on the small side
-Status Display lacks backlight option
