Panasonic Toughbook F8 Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — January, 2009

Panasonic’s aptly named Toughbook line gets a new member in the form of the new Toughbook F8. The durable F8 comes in an angular two-tone chassis made out of magnesium alloy that has a thickness of 1.9-inch at the rear. Despite the bulky look, the reviewer stated that the F8 is lightweight, weighing only 3.7 pounds. It features a circular touchpad that can be annoying for some. The full-size keyboard provided good tactile and audible feedback while typing. The F8 only has the basic ports such as three USB ports, VGA and a mini port replicator connector. The keyboard can endure up to 6 ounces of water and the F8 can withstand drops from a height of 2.5 feet. An integrated TPM circuitry and Intel’s vPro Technology adds more security to the notebook. The 14.1-inch widescreen panel is bright, though the satin-finish anti-glare coating made some color display type duller. While horizontal viewing angles are acceptable, it was mediocre vertically. The Core 2 Duo processor and 3GB of RAM combined to get very good scores during benchmark tests. The battery powered the F8 for an impressive 5 hours 38 minutes. Wireless throughput is above average, pushing data at a rate of 20.0 and 13.3 Mbps at 15 and 50 feet respectively. While the design may be a bit polarizing, the power and durability of the Toughbook F8 make it a solid option.
