An updated version of the venerable and popular Tungsten E, Palm's latest offering is difficult to differentiate on the surface from its parent Tungsten E, except for the new all-in-one multi-connector cable, which makes using it with older Tungsten E's impossible. Screen size is the same 320 x 320 pixel, 65K color, and Palm claims the E2 is significantly brighter than it's predecessor, a claim correlated by the reviewer. The hardware is upgraded as well, with an Intel XScale processor at 200 MHz running PalmOS Garnet 5.4 with 32 MB of RAM, with 26 available. The major new features are a more capable battery and most importantly, persistent Flash RAM. This means that when the battery dies, everything stays. In the old days of volatile memory, when the power went, so did everything else in memory. WiFi is sadly lacking, but with an SDIO WiFi card available as an add-in option, it need not be a permanent void. Bluetooth is fully integrated, with a wizard for easy setup, and the software bundle is typically (for Palm) robust and complete. A worthy upgrade to a great product line.
