Olympus adds another entry into the field of DSLRs with its Olympus E-3. It weighs about 2 pounds with the battery and CompactFlash card, and about 3.3 pounds if you attach the lens. The E-3 is made of rugged magnesium alloy which makes it weatherproof, dustproof, and splashproof. On the right hand side is a solid-feeling rubber grip for those one handed shots - if you can lift the camera with just one hand. It has an LCD, though the 2.5-inch size seems a bit too small. There are 2 ways to access the menus in the camera. The reviewer noted that using the Menu” button was actually the least intuitive path to take. On the other hand, pushing the “OK” button reveals Olympus’ Super Control Panel that allows the user to quickly change settings when needed. The E-3 offers 10.1 megapixels of resolution. It offers in-camera mechanical image stabilization, something that other DSLR cameras lack. The E-3 is speedy as well, with a boot-up time of 0.79 seconds and a recycle time of a mere 0.79 seconds. Overall image quality is excellent, even in low-light conditions. The Olympus E-3 is a fine choice for a semi-pro DSLR.
