Nikon D50 Reviews

Summary of review published by Digital Camera Magazine — April, 2006 (page 44)

The reviewer claims that the Nikon D50 is the perfect SLR for entry-level users, and might as well be the only digital SLR for most users. Its performance is as good as the Nikon D70, but the D50’s advantages is that it is more compact and easier to use. The camera grip is quite snug for most hand types, and the frontal area of the camera is clutter-free. You can also set various flash modes and intensities via a conveniently located button near the command dial. The D50 has 6 automatic scene modes, but also has full manual control. This camera also has Nikon’s Flexible Program, which lets you change and program combinations of apertures and shutter speeds for easy shifting during program mode. A flash hot-shoe is also embedded in the camera, letting you hook up extra flash bulbs and wireless transmitters. The status LCD is located on the right of the hot-shoe, but the downside is that it’s not self-illuminating in the dark. Generally, the camera feels solid and durable, with great professional functions at a more affordable price. The Nikon D50 is available as camera body only, with the optional lens kit.
Pros:
-More compact camera body, but with great professional features
-Nikon’s Flexible Program function lets you program aperture and shutter speed combinations
-Full manual control
Cons:
-LCD status panel doesn’t illuminate, making it unreadable in the dark
