Serious video professionals in the market for an equally serious turnkey system might want to check out NewTek’s TriCaster Professional Studio in a Box live production system. The TriCaster STUDIO features six sets of live component, Y/C and composite inputs, and spectacular virtual sets. There are four additional inputs, bringing the grand total to ten sources from which to output a variety of file formats - twice to that of its predecessor. Setting up involves the Windows XP activation, download of the latest TriCaster update and a reboot. The reviewer stated that it defaults to the six input configuration but the TriCaster STUDIO gives you the option to work in 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios and two configuration modes. It includes individual processing amplifiers (Proc Amps) at each input so the results were good without the need for separate processing equipments. For those who have used a video switcher before, the layout of the TriCaster STUDIO will look very familiar. The reviewer stated that keying compressed video always presents challenges, but the addition of Edge, Spill, and Garbage Matte adjustments makes getting one that is acceptable for most situations fairly easy. There is also a feature that lets the user output a live stream to the web. If you find yourself in need of a powerful and durable turnkey system, the TriCaster STUDIO is a solid option.
