Mitsubishi tries to balance portability and power with its latest projector offering, the XD95U. It may not be as thin as other ultraportables but the XD95U has a diminutive footprint of only 8.1 x 7.5 inches. The XD95U has a travel weight of 4 pounds. It comes with a powerful lamp that can beam out 2200 ANSI lumens at XGA resolution. However, to achieve such portability, the input connectors are maintained at bare minimum. A credit-size remote control is included, though the reviewer noted that it won’t be of much use. During lab tests, the XD95U achieved a brightness reading of 2339 lumens which is greater than what they have advertised. Contrast-ratio is impressive as well, clocking in at 639:1. On the other hand, image size is quite small, measuring only 41 inches in diagonal at a distance of 5 feet. Also, the XD95U took its sweet time to warm up (41 seconds) and to cool down (90 seconds) with the Quick Cooling feature disabled. Enabling it dropped the cool down time to a brisker 31 seconds. While it does possess excellent brightness as well as contrast-ratio and is easy to tote around, there are better and cheaper alternatives to Mitsubishi’s XD95U.
