Mapopolis is a GPS navigation program with available versions for Pocket PCs and Windows Mobile Smartphones. Although you can download the program for free, you have to pay for the maps you will use for the program. Once you’ve activated your GPS receiver, Mapopolis uses your current location as a starting point for routing. The maps come with 16 different zoom in and zoom out levels, and the map files are compressed enough that US street maps can be stored on a 512MB data card. The reviewer notes that although you need to buy the maps, the points of interest guides are bought separately from the maps. If you’re a bit unfamiliar with your destination, Mapopolis’ “Find” feature allows you to search for cities, streets, and landmarks. It can even do a search by category. You can also select non-addressed locations as endpoints, as long as you know the latitude and longitude. This function is great for geocaching, hiking, biking, and trekking. The maps are NAVTEQ and TIGER derived, and you can purchase maps for the US, most Canadian Cities, and the whole of Western Europe.
