In its bid to be a fun, easy-to-use video editing software, the Magix Movie Edit Pro 14 Plus falls short of its goal. Installation of the software took more than 10 minutes, owing to the additional, albeit somewhat irrelevant, software such as a photo manager, photo editor, CD/DVD burning application, and even a music finder. To make it even more complicated, the four included codecs must be activated individually. The layout looks similar to Adobe Premiere Elements 4, though icons tend to change or disappear completely when switching between the Record, Edit, and Burn control windows. The reviewer also noted that clip additions can be confusing due to the fact that the software treats clips inconsistently. Movie Edit Pro does have a wizard, though all it could do is add beginning credits, end credits, and a soundtrack. The rest is up to the user. The Movie Edit Pro does have a few good points, such as unique titling options and the capability to record what is happening on-screen. However, these very few redeeming qualities aren’t enough to warrant the reviewer’s recommendation.
