Magellan Roadmate 700 Reviews

Summary of review published by Handheld Computing — July, 2005 (page 48)

This in-car navigation system is similar to an in-dash system in ease of function and power, as well as being less expensive (though still pricey at $1,259) and portable. The Roadmate 700 contains a Toshiba 20 GB hard drive, on which it stores the complete North America NAVTEQ maps, the GPS software and video tutorials. The system can be set up for 3 different users, each with their own waypoints, etc. Interface is clean and simple, with common commands close to hand and a few uncluttered buttons on the unit. Voice prompts are clearly heard through the large speaker, although the reviewer noticed scratchy sound at high volumes. Excellent choice for a serious car navigation system without tearing out your dashboard.
Pros:
-Portable
-Complete NAVTEQ maps of North America
-Well-designed controls
-Internal 20 GB HDD
Cons:
-Expensive
-No battery backup (runs off 12V adapter)
