Magellan Meridian Color Reviews

Summary of review published by Handheld Computing — December, 2005 (page 46)

The Meridian Color is a small, rugged handheld GPS unit designed for general mapping and location use. The rubberized and waterproof case (that floats) weighs about a half-pound and so is a little large for a pocket, but is set up well for one-handed use, with large buttons and convenient controls. Screen is only 120 x 160 pixels (2.6" diagonal), reducing the usefulness of hi-res maps and street plots. Used alone, the software is adequate, but acquiring the optional Mapsend software add-ons is highly recommended. Each module adds highly-detailed functions to the basic unit, from hi-res topo maps to detailed city streets. Overall, a heavy-duty, quality-built unit but needs add-on software to truly shine.
Pros:
-Heavy-duty rubberized and waterproof case
-Mapsend software adds flexibility and functionality
Cons:
-Needs extra software for full functionality
-Pricey
-Very small display
