MSI Wind U90X Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — October, 2008

While it does have some of the features that made the MSI Wind U100 a popular netbook when it was released, the U90X doesn’t live up to its older brother’s reputation. The U90X’s chassis is identical l to that of the U100 - only the screen size was shrunk. Its black exterior feels solid but looks basic. The lid has a glossy finish but, surprisingly, doesn’t attract fingerprints. It weighs 2.5 pounds which the reviewer noted to be heavier than other 8.9-inch systems on the market. It has the ports you’d normally look for in a netbook, and maintains the excellent, almost-full-size keyboard with matte keys. The touchpad is still small, measuring only 2.0 x 1.7 inches. The 8.9-inch, 1024 x 600-pixel resolution display provided clear images and sharp colors. Vertical viewing angles were limited, though the horizontal angles were better. It comes with the SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 which the reviewer found to be frustrating. He stated that SUSE is known for its difficulty in connecting and staying connected to the Internet. Performance test showed that the U90X performed as expected from a netbook. The 3-cell battery performed dismally, losing power after only 1 hour and 39 minutes. Despite the comfortable keyboard and spacious drive, the SUSE Linux OS in the U90X might be a deal breaker for some prospective buyers.
Pros:
-comfortable keyboard
-runs cool
-large storage space
Cons:
-buggy SUSE Linux OS
-mediocre battery life
-single mouse-bar button
