MSI GX720 Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — September, 2008

Gamers on a budget looking for a capable desktop rig without breaking the bank might want to check out the MSI GX720. Weighing only 7.2 pounds, bringing the GX720 along won’t break your back. It skips the flamboyant tribal-style tattoo design of its predecessor, the GX600 Extreme Edition. MSI opted for a simple red-black color scheme. The keyboard is spacious and above it are illuminated touch-sensitive multi-media buttons. The GX720 has a glossy 17-inch, 1680 x 1050 display. The reviewer stated that the display is perfect for watching high-definition movies. It provided bright and colorful images and excellent viewing angles. The Dolby’s Theater Class 4.1 surround sound provided the audio punch. The GX720 is packed with a bevy of ports including FireWire and eSATA and HDMI ports. Benchmark scores showed 900 points above the average for its class. Graphics performance isn’t mediocre either, hitting above average scores for its category. The GX720 features Turbo and Eco modes, though both modes didn’t show much improvement in performance or even in endurance. It lasted 2 hours and 46 minutes on a charge. While some of its features are overstated, the MSI GX720 is still a solid and value-priced gaming notebook.
Pros:
-good performance
-powerful sounds
-numerous ports
Cons:
-overclocking showed negligible benefit
-eco mode had little performance in endurance
