Lenovo decided to keep the winning formula of the successful ThinkPad X300 and added a few more bells and whistles to come up with the latest iteration, the ThinkPad X301. It features the same a carbon and glass fiber exterior which the company claims is lighter and stronger than titanium, making the X301 svelte but with excellent construction. The X301 carries the usual ports, though noticeably missing is a memory card slot. The 13.3-inch LED-backlit display has a matte finish that prevents glare. The results are rich colors and wide viewing angles without the distracting glare. It still has the excellent ThinkPad keyboard, which the reviewer hails as the best in the business. The X301 offers both a pointing stick and a touchpad. As a security feature, it comes with a biometric fingerprint reader. Benchmark scores were above the average for its category. The graphics test yielded the same results using 3DMark03. The solid state drive blew all the previous averages in terms of transfer speed, copying a 4.97GB folder in 2 minutes and 37. However, battery tests results were mediocre, falling nearly 3 hours short of what is expected. Nonetheless, the ThinkPad X301 is still an excellent business machine, though you may want to go the extra mile with the extra three-cell battery.
Pros:
-lightweight
-thin profile
-durable solid state drive
Cons:
-no media card slot
-expensive
