Lenovo’s benchmark for a high-end workstation just went up a notch with the release of the largest Lenovo ThinkPad ever, the W700. It still possesses the clean lines and familiar matte black finish of a ThinkPad. It weighs 8.3 pounds, which the reviewer noted to be in line with other desktop replacements. You still get the classic ThinkPad keyboard as well as both the pointing stick and the touchpad for cursor control. Beneath the lid is a 17-inch display with 1920 x 1200-pixel resolution that provides excellent color reproduction and wide viewing angles. There is also a built-in 5.1 x 3.2-inch Wacom digitizer pad that can be used with the included stylus. A bevy of ports adorn the W700, including an ExpressCard/34/54 and PCI Express slots, a 7-in-1 card reader, and a DisplayPort connection in lieu of an HDMI port. Benchmark test scores are impressive for both performance and graphics. The large 9-cell battery provided power for 2 hours and 41 minutes which is a bit above the average for its class. If you need serious processing power and can afford the $3,802 tag-price, the Lenovo ThinkPad W700 workstation can deliver.
Pros:
-excellent 3D performance
-built-in Wacom digitizer pad
-excellent display
Cons:
-very pricey
-bulky battery
