Taking over the gap left by the demise of the small-business notebook line of Lenovo, the 3000 series, is the ThinkPad SL400. The SL400 looks like a part of the enterprise line of Lenovo, inheriting several of the classic ThinkPad design features. In order to differentiate it, the new device was given a glossy black top. It comes with a 14-inch screen with 1,440-by-900 resolution. The reviewer stated that the display is bright and easy on the eyes. However, having a 14-inch display does come at a price: a heftier frame and a total weight of 6 pounds. The SL400 has the ThinkPad keyboard, TrackPoint pointing stick, touchpad, and another set of mouse buttons to provide dual pointing devices. It also comes with a cellular modem, giving the SL400 a feature set worthy for hard-core business professionals. A plethora of ports is available and includes four USB ports, an SD card slot, a fingerprint reader, a FireWire port, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, and an HDMI-out port. The 2.24-GHz P8400 processor was able to score 30 percent more than the Dell 1310 using the SYSmark 2007 Preview. Battery life is impressive as well, lasting 4 hours 38 minutes on MobileMark 2007 despite the discrete graphics card. If you are in the market for an inexpensive small-business laptop without compromising performance and features, the ThinkPad SL400 might just be for you.
Pros:
-good price point
-excellent keyboard
-good performance scores
-good battery endurance
-wide range of connectivity ports
Cons:
-bulky
