Lenovo expands its ThinkVision family of LCD monitors with the new ThinkVision L220x. It comes in a business-like design with a black cabinet and a narrow bezel, as well as the usual spaghetti-shaped function buttons. At the rear are two inputs (analog and DVI) and three USB ports (two downstream and one upstream). Two of the USB ports are located on the left-hand side of the unit. The L220x is the first 22-inch display to have a native resolution of 1,920 by 1,200 pixels. It also offers wide-gamut technology, allowing it to display 92 percent of the NTSC color gamut, while standard panels are only in the 70 percent range. The result is bold colors, excellent dark grayscale reproduction, and excellent text readability. It has a pivot feature and built-in sensor that automatically reorients the screen when rotated. The reviewer noted that in running the DisplayMate suite of diagnostic tests, the panel produced deep, rich colors that ramped evenly from dark to light. The L220x doesn’t suffer the same weak vertical viewing angles found in other pivot displays, living up to its claim of 178-degree viewing angles from all sides. Fast-motion sequences were smooth and error-free. While the ThinkVision L220x can cost you a pretty penny, the excellent image quality and the wide-gamut technology make it worth every single cent.
