Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 Reviews

Summary of review published by Laptop Magazine — October, 2008

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 is a capable multimedia system that won’t cost you a limb. The 6.6-pound Y530 looks similar to its predecessor, the Y510, with the black lid with a linen-weave textured surface. The interior showcases the same smooth, black and grey offset only by pumpkin orange media buttons, LED lights, and a volume rocker. The full-size keyboard is great, with matte keys providing excellent, cushioned response. The 15.4-inch, glossy, 1280 x 800 resolution glass screen looks excellent. However, it has a narrow vertical viewing range and the screen is extremely reflective. It carries the usual ports including HDMI, FireWire an ExpressCard slot and a 6-in-1 memory card reader. The built-in 1.3-MP camera can be used together with Lenovo’s Veriface facial-recognition software. The reviewer stated that the Veriface continues to be one of the best preloaded solutions available. Benchmark scores are a bit below the mainstream average, though using the system for normal activities didn’t produce any hang-ups. The 802.11n adapter delivered above-average throughput, pushing data at 20.7 Mbps at 15 feet and 18.2 Mbps at 50 feet. The system’s six-cell battery lasted 3 hours and 35 minutes - 10 minutes longer than the average. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 is a good choice for a multimedia system with a sub-$1,000 tag price.
Pros:
-excellent speakers
-frameless LCD
-responsive facial recognition software
-good performance
Cons:
-no Blu-ray option
-screen extremely reflective
