LaCie Little Big Disk Quadra Reviews

Summary of review published by PC Magazine — August, 2008

Confused about the name? The Little Big Disk Quadra is actually small in size but big in storage space. It measures only 1.6 by 3.3 by 5.5 inches, and comes with four ports: one eSATA, one mini-USB, and two FireWire 800 ports, thus the name Quadra. Inside the Little Big Disk are two 250GB 2.5-inch drives running at 5,400 rpm. While it's considered as a portable hard drive, the AC adapter requirement made the reviewer move it to the desktop category. Once you plug in the device, it automatically detects whether you are using a Mac or Windows machine and prompts you to format the drive as NTFS (Windows) or HFS+ (Mac). Speed test results varied depending on what interface was used. Using the USB 2.0 interface, it scored 2,960 points on FutureMark's PCMark05 hard drive test. It was significantly better when the FireWire interface is used, scoring 3,666 and 3,689 for FireWire 400 and 800 respectively. Out of all the interfaces, the eSATA is the fastest with a blazing score of 4,721 points on PCMark's hard drive test. The Little Big Disk Quadra is the storage solution for those who need the highest in data transfer rates.
Pros:
-portable storage
-comes with four interfaces
-bus powered FireWire 400/800

Cons:
-needs power adapter for USB or eSATA
-pricey
