LaCie’s reputation for creating gorgeous external storages strikes again with the extremely sexy LaCie Hard Disk. Created by the renowned designer Neil Poulton, the super-glossy black 1TB drive is just 2.2 pounds and can easily be placed inside a travel bag without adding too much bulk. It features several ports for data connection: eSATA, FireWire 400, or USB 2.0. Via USB 2.0, a 5GB folder of mixed media transferred at a rate of 19.7 MBps. Writing the same folder took 3 minutes and 24 seconds, translating to 25.0 MBps. Using the FireWire 400 port provided a better read speed rate of 29.9 MBps. The reviewer however, noted that the write speed is much slower than the USB 2.0, taking 7 minutes and 47 seconds to receive the 5GB folder. The eSATA connection produced the best read and write speeds of 35.6 MBps and 37.9 MBps, respectively. It comes bundled with the LaCie Backup Software that lets the user back up the system. It can also create partitions dedicated to storing files from different operating systems. However, it lacks any encryption software to keep your data away from curious individuals. The LaCie Hard Disk offers speed and a gorgeous design for anyone looking to back up lots of data.

Pros:
-stunning design
-fast read and write speeds
-compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac
Cons:
-FireWire 400 is slow
-no encryption software
