The Ethernet Disk mini-Home Edition’s hardware is from LaCie, while its hardware while Axentra provides the HipServ software. Compared to other NAS in the market, the LaCie is slower, uneasy to install, and lacks integrity protection. Starting with the setup, the reviewer finds it tedious, especially when it is designed for the home. The instructions are confusing that you don’t know when to run the install software. But once you have overcome the installation hitches, HipServ does have a good user interface. HipServ software allows the LaCie to act as a digital media server that support various file formats and protocols such as UPnP AV, iTunes, and Windows Media. Yet, you might be disappointed at its performance sharing videos. Its 500GB storage drive has only 32MB of RAM. Overall, the reviewer finds the LaCie lacking in key features and doesn’t merit his recommendation.
