LG 50PY3D HDTV Reviews

Summary of review published by PC Magazine — May, 2008

LG’s 50PY3D is the company’s first 50 inch plasma TV to have a 1080p resolution screen. At first, the reviewer had mixed reactions about test results on the 50PY3D, but once properly configured, he was pleased with its picture quality. Most of this plasma TV’s video ports are conveniently positioned for easy access. There are three HDMI ports, two component video inputs, and a VGA port which are all compatible with 1080p input. Its default resolution is 1,920 by 1,080 pixels, but overscan is a problem. Like any other HDTV, the 50PY3D has various picture presets to optimize picture quality for different room environments. Although it doesn’t produce the darkest blacks or the brightest whites, the reviewer still thinks that it’s competitive in the plasma TV category.
Pros:
-Superior standard-definition video processing
-Good selection of 1080p compatible ports
-Swiveling table stand

Cons:
-Some picture settings sacrifice standard-definition video detail
-Overscan problem
-Rough edges on some artifacts seen in some HD video sources
