After falling behind other point-and-shoot makers, Kodak is now ready to get its second wind with the new EasyShare M1033. The 10MP, 5.12-ounce camera is lightweight and small enough to fit into a pocket. The 3-inch LCD is big and bright and is even viewable in direct sunlight. On top of the camera are the power and shutter buttons which can be difficult to access by touch. It was a different story for the zoom control which is easy to access with the right thumb while shooting. It features 3x optical zoom, and has a “smart capture mode” for automatic shooting. It automatically analyzes the scene and optimizes the settings for each shot with Kodak’s Intelligent Scene Detection, Intelligent Capture Control, and Intelligent Image Processing. The reviewer noted that shooting with the EasyShare M1033 on low-light conditions produced impressive shots, with just a small amount of noise under about ISO 800. It’s no slouch in the speed department as well, with boot-up times and recycle times at 2.69 and 2.22 seconds, respectively. Overall image quality is excellent with uniform and vivid colors. It can also record HD-quality video at a resolution of 1,280-by-720 at 30 frames per second. For an inexpensive yet good performing point-and-shoot, the Kodak M1033 is a solid camera.
