JVC Everio GZ-HD3 Reviews

Summary of review published by VideoMaker — March, 2008

JVC decided to cook up a camera that has something for everyone. The JVC GZ-HD3 Everio is a hybrid camcorder that is fun to use and allows for very long recording times with high-def resolution. The HD3 fits in the hand like a glove and the weight is just right to avoid shaky videos from small twitches and movements. Just like its predecessor, the HD7, this camcorder employs Constant Bitrate Recording (CBR) and Variable Bitrate Recording (VBR) at 1920 x 1080 pixels. It is called a hybrid camera because it can record up to two different media. It comes with a 60GB HDD that can record up to 5 hours in the high quality mode. Users can also use the built-in SD/SDHC slot. Despite having numerous features, the reviewer stated that the camera doesn’t look cluttered. The buttons are easily accessible and the user interface is straightforward. Video quality is beautifully rich in both color and contrast. The reviewer stated that the video doesn't suffer much from over-sharpening. The package includes QuickTime component (Mac only) and CyberLink BD software (PC only). Overall, the flexibility and ease of use of the JVC GZ-HD3 Everio make it a good choice for an entry-level camcorder.
Pros:
-5-hours HD recording time
-easy to use

Cons:
-no headphone jack
