Iomega Power Pro RAID Reviews

Summary of review published by VideoMaker — August, 2007

Simply marketed as an “external hard drive”, the label barely describes what this device is capable of. The Iomega Power Pro RAID is pre-configured as RAID 5 and pre-formatted as FAT32. No installation of drivers is needed to access the device. Simply connect it to Windows or Mac OS computers and it’s ready for use. If a problem arises with one of the drives, a red indicator appears. You can use two blue plastic hex keys, along with a key ring, to remove the drive that failed. Once the drive is replaced with a new one, the system dutifully rebuilds the drive. That is, unless it’s configured as RAID 0, in which case all of the files will be gone. Capable of performing a rebuild automatically if needed, a drive can be designated as a hot spare and automatically rebuilds with no involvement necessary. Unfortunately, at $1,200 it’s a little on the steep-side, but it is still quite an excellent product that is worth considering.
Pros:
-Fast
-Easy to use
-Lots of configuration options
-RAID 5 Pre-configured
Cons:
-Price
-No eSATA port
