Ingram Micro is back to give us the superb V7 NAV740. On the outside, this GPS device has a 4.3-inch widescreen with a 480 by 272 pixel display. Inside, it has a Samsung S3C2440 400-MHz processor with 64MB of flash memory and 64MB of SDRAM. It also has a 20-channel SiRFstarIII receiver. The built-in lithium polymer battery has been tested to have a lifespan of 3.5 hours in navigation mode. Other features include a dedicated volume switch, a standby power switch, a reset button, a 3.5mm audio-out jack, a mini-USB connector, and a SD card slot. Preloaded on the device are Tele Atlas maps for all the 50 states and Puerto Rico. It contains the largest POI database among GPS devices with its 11 million POI entries. It also has a multimedia player that supports almost all of the popular media file formats. Taking into consideration of all the features and its low price, the reviewer gave the NAV740 the honor of being an Editor’s Choice.
Pros:
-Not expensive
-Text to speech functions
-Able to multisegment routing
-Has a 11 million POI database
-Built-in multimedia player
Cons:

Low price doesn’t always mean low quality when it comes to GPS units. And the same holds true for the V7 Nav740. Though the bezel may look cheap, the reviewer noted that the Nav470 wasn’t found lacking. With a 4.3-inch touchscreen which is rare at its price, an up-to-date POI database of 11 million, a media player, TMC traffic upgradeability, the reviewer stated that the Nav740 doesn’t lack in features. Driving with the Nav740 was a pleasure for the reviewer, thanks to its street name pronunciation. It is offered with 4 languages but only 1 with text-to-speech. The reviewer, however, stated that the rear speaker is quite poor and voice comes out crackly. When it comes to routing, though it reroutes just as fast as more expensive units, it doesn’t favor larger, faster roads. It may have some rough spots but given its price and compared with its features, the V7 Nav740 is great bargain.
Pros:
-Low price
-Street name pronunciation available
-Large screen
-Media player
Cons:
-Design looks cheap
-Crackly voice
-Routing doesn’t choose better roads
